A place for everyone.
Make it work.

For everyone. Together with everyone.

For over 135 years, we are here for you. With 125,000 colleagues and more than 1,250 stores in the Netherlands and Flanders, we are deeply rooted in society. Everyone is welcome as a customer and as a colleague, regardless of age, gender, belief, sexual orientation, cultural background, or education. Everywhere and every day. We are proud of this and feel responsible for safeguarding and promoting it.

Making better food accessible. For everyone. That is the mission of Albert Heijn. We can only achieve this if we are truly there for everyone. That's why we consider it crucial that everyone with us can be themselves and has equal opportunities.

Our perspective on Diversity

Diversity means to us that we want to be a reflection of Dutch society:

  • We have approximately 2,000 colleagues with a physical or intellectual challenge.
  • We represent a large number of nationalities.
  • In 2023, more than 51% of our colleagues were female, 48% male, and 1% identified as other. Among the leaders, the ratio was approximately 62% male and 37% female.
We believe in diversity in the broadest sense of the word. Different people bring different perspectives and ideas. These lead to inspiring new solutions for ourselves and, especially, for our customers.

An inclusive work environment

At Albert Heijn, we work with passionate teams: enthusiastic groups where you can always be yourself. A team where you feel safe, accepted, and valued. It's a place where we strengthen each other's talents, encourage one another, and listen to each other. Everyone participates in our way of working:

  • All our leaders are trained in recognizing unconscious biases and developing inclusive behavior.
  • We regularly organize conversations between colleagues and executives to exchange experiences and needs, keeping the conversation going.
  • We have various diversity networks, groups established by colleagues based on shared characteristics.

Equality in work and compensation

We aim to provide all our colleagues with equal opportunities and fair compensation. As part of our ambitions and activities in the areas of diversity, inclusion, equality, and connectedness, our goals include gender equality. These goals align with our commitment to the UN Women's Empowerment Principles. More information about workplace equality can be found in our sustainability report 2023.

Diversity networks

We have several diversity networks that you can join. A diversity network is a group of colleagues with shared personal characteristics or a common passion for a particular topic. Feel welcome to become a member of one or more of our diversity networks: Young Ahold Delhaize, Ahold Delhaize Pride, or DNA (Diversity Network Ahold Delhaize). As a member of a diversity network, you'll be regularly invited to fun activities and gatherings
